Hero Spotlight: Ed S. — Launching a New Career with PMP®

At TMOG, we believe that the right certification doesn’t just validate your experience—it opens doors you didn’t know existed. For Ed S., the PMP® was more than a credential; it was a catalyst for a career transformation that took him from active-duty service to executive leadership in the private sector.

From Military Program Manager to Civilian Career Pathfinder

With an MBA and a successful military career as a program manager, Ed was already a high-performer. But like many service members exploring civilian options, he wanted to broaden his opportunities and establish credibility in a competitive job market. When his new unit offered support for PMP training, Ed jumped at the chance—and found TMOG’s Project Management Boot Camp led by Jon McGlothian.

“Honestly, the PMP prep felt harder than getting my MBA,” Ed admitted.
“But Jon’s full-picture teaching style and mentoring made all the difference.”

The Power of PMP + Personalized Mentorship

Ed appreciated that TMOG didn’t just teach theory—it guided students through application. The mentorship he received, including individual coaching and structured exam prep, gave him the clarity and confidence to pass the exam on his first attempt. He credits TMOG’s support with helping him internalize not just project management principles, but a new mindset.

PMP Certified—and Recruited Fast

Once certified, Ed immediately started receiving outreach from employers. His PMP set him apart, and opportunities came quickly—from a high-level offer with Space Force’s Cyber Team to a tech startup seeking strong PM leadership. Ed ultimately chose the startup, where he was initially hired as an entry-level PM. Within weeks, the executive team created a Vice President role for him to oversee project management company-wide.

“The PMP gave me credibility to lead projects in fields I’m not technically trained in,” Ed shared.
“It’s not about being the smartest engineer—it’s about managing the mission.”

A Managerial Mindset for Life

Today, Ed leads with confidence across technical teams, orchestrating complex projects while mentoring up-and-coming PMs. He says his PMP skills extend beyond work—they’ve made him a more focused, organized individual overall.

“The PMP changed how I approach everything. Any obstacle—I think through it as a project manager.”

Ed’s Advice to Aspiring Project Leaders

“Just do it. Even if you don’t hold a PM title, the PMP will make you a better manager.”

With the skills, strategy, and certification he gained through TMOG, Ed’s story is proof that new chapters are possible—and that the right guide can accelerate your journey.
